After 19 years as a physical therapist I have decided to open my own practice.
Some years ago, before this decision was made, I told my wife that even after I retire I wanted to have a room in our house where I could see people and help them. It would be a relaxed environment. The desire to do this had nothing to do with earning a living, as I expected that when I retired we would be comfortable. It would be in time with having our mortgage paid off and being able to live off our 401(k) savings. There are times when I think of my work as my hobby. I enjoy the process of getting to know someone and the condition that they come to me with for treatment. I find the problem solving aspect of my work to be quite interesting. When a solution is found, it leads to relief of pain and restoration of a person’s ability to lead a normal lifestyle. I share in the joy that brings. I don’t ever want to stop doing that.
During these 19 years I have sought out advanced training and applied it in the clinic. Often I would do so using my own funds and my own vacation time. Enhancing my skills made my work more satisfying as it lead to more positive treatment outcomes.
I like to be in tune with my working environment. In working for others I found myself unable to create an optimal therapeutic environment. Such an environment would be private, quiet and free from distractions. It would be unhurried. I came to the realization that to have such a setting I would have to become self employed.
One day I came home from work. It was a particularly (and unnecessarily) stressful day. After discussing the day’s events with my wife she reminded me of my ambitions for having a clinic in the house. We walked around the house and saw that we could transform part of it into a clinic. We looked into our town’s ordinances and found that we were permitted to do so. We crunched some numbers and concluded that we could make this happen.
It was then that we decided to open Cedar Hill Physical Therapy out of our home. The name comes from a number of trees we planted on our property. Our home – and now my office – is a relaxing, spacious environment, ideal for providing excellent care. I look forward to seeing former patients again and meeting new clients in the future, helping them achieve greater health and comfort through focusing on one person at a time. Welcome to Cedar Hill!Paul

I believe I have heard enough and want to come as a patient. Thanks.
I wish I was local – I would love to visit! It sounds wonderful.
Thanks Diana!
